Welcome to The Last Forest

We are delighted to be able to make The Last Forest: Tales of the Allegheny Woods available to you and your students. In addition to providing creative new ways to teach the traditional Three R’s and other subjects, the curriculum guide is designed to provide teachers of grades 6 through ­10 with the tools necessary to acquaint their students with an important piece of Appalachian literature - one that contains valuable lessons on environmental stewardship and the preservation of our communities and heritage.

Inside you will find:

• The Last Forest curriculum guide, which includes the text of five selected stories from the book, activities, photographs, documents, maps, and other primary sources chosen to make history come alive for you and your students.
• Five radio plays adapted from the five stories.These radio plays are broken into short segments to facilitate classroom discussion. Teachers may want to use this audio material to introduce the units.
